I especially loved running into the Timescape and then popping out at the Crown of Command. We played 2-player Chaos Bloodbath all the time, and it was massive fun.

Its still a fun game to pull out and play every now and then. I would play it more, but its nice to try out Euros and other AT games. Are you fighting the other players to knock them to force them into playing another character? Are you racing to get to the crown as quickly as possible?

If you stay in the outer realm and just collect gear until you are nigh-indestructible, OF COURSE the game takes hours and hours!

We've always enjoyed seeing how much cool stuff we could get rather than turning it into a race...
Sheesh, lighten up and have some fun, that's the point of playing a game anyway, isn't it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-82102704453330509692012-06-02T23:26:07.273-07:002012-06-02T23:26:07.273-07:00I haven't really heard about Talisman, not unt...I haven't really heard about Talisman, not until my kids forced to play it with them. So it was their mother that bought it for them and I believe it is a pretty fun game overall. This brings back memories of Ragnarok and Tales games, if you know what I mean.MIT IT Recruitmenthttp://www.mitprof.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-75973049379225785672012-01-23T07:07:19.896-08:002012-01-23T07:07:19.896-08:00Yeah, I wonder how Fantasy Flight actually calcula...Yeah, I wonder how Fantasy Flight actually calculates their times. I don't think I've ever played any of their games as fast as they claim they are. Most of their games seem to need at least an hour more than they say.Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14011225292134198772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-15327778641285624902012-01-23T04:55:15.551-08:002012-01-23T04:55:15.551-08:00I always wondered if I was playing this wrong. Fantasy Flight reckon this game takes 90 minutes to play, yet most games I've played take 4 to 6 hours.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02586499827285953235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-41524131259468072332012-01-11T12:01:24.510-08:002012-01-11T12:01:24.510-08:00I was totally curious about this game. But the thing that really kills it for me is that it's just too long. I would enjoy the game immensely if it took about half the time.GeekInsighthttp://gfbrobot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-57546518676004944572012-01-10T07:07:41.967-08:002012-01-10T07:07:41.967-08:00And just as an FYI, I believe that Fantasy Flight ...And just as an FYI, I believe that Fantasy Flight has made an adapter kit that "converts" 4th Edition to Revised 4th Edition, which is required if you consider using the thousands of expansions that Fantasy Flight has been releasing. I agree - I like this game, but don't totally love it. Most (if not all) of the games you mentioned are in my 9+ rating due to that fact. On the opposite hand, though, my wife really enjoys Talisman, so this is a good game that I can play with her during the evenings.Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14011225292134198772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-6154538160416225272012-01-10T06:15:30.351-08:002012-01-10T06:15:30.351-08:00I'm glad I read this blog, I learned something...I'm glad I read this blog, I learned something new about my game. I apparently own Talisman 4th edition (NOT revised 4th edition)! I was confused about this for sometime because I had a different looking cover yet it pretty clearly was not 3rd edition. 4th edition was published by black industries rather than fantasy flight a few months to a year earlier and there are a few changes. Based on the blog (as apparently I haven't played revised 4th edition) is the addition of fate tokens which were not in the black industries version. They sound like they would be highly beneficial to someone who has repeatedly gotten insurmountably behind (often a fate worse than death in this gamers opinion) due to a poor dice showing and just the wrong time.

So assuming that's the main difference between editions I'll make my other comments, but please accept the disclaimer there may be other variances that invalidate my claims.

I like Talisman, but I don't love it. I would play it again, and might even do so this weekend, but it is not a game that after I don't play for a while I miss unlike Risk 2210, puerto rico, pirate's cove, or even shadow's over camelot. Rather it's a game that I tend to enjoy ok when I'm playing but forget about when I stop.

The only con I want to add to Josh's review that I found is the stat's, as I remember them are not balanced. Strength is needed throughout 75% of the game and wisdom only 25%, yet characters seem to be created on the assumption that the two are equivalent. Unless this changed also in the revised version this I think is one of the things that causes me not to love it because the more you play it the more I end up taking the same strategy and the more I get the impression that each character is not just as good and only requires a different strategy (something I think Runebound does a better job of). But it's been a while, if others of you have not found this to be the case maybe I should play it again or find someone with revised 4th. Have other people found this to be true as well?John Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07528379986697467741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-52540365109730058402012-01-10T05:24:07.191-08:002012-01-10T05:24:07.191-08:00I grew up with an original dungeon master guide, T...I grew up with an original dungeon master guide, Talisman (plus all expansion), Bloodbowl and Adaptus Titanicus never far from me.

Talisman is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite board game ever and once my son is bored with Heroica I plan on introducing him to it.

Thanks for reminding me of its greatness, I remember looking on Ebay ages ago and seeing it with all expansion for well over £150.

Hopefully the newer versions are as good as the old!

Malc.Malcolm Sladehttp://www.beingadad.co.uknoreply@blogger.com
