So, I think I will skip it unless a friend wants to drop the cashKswisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03894336524539773980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-20469504752538339202012-04-10T16:23:21.309-07:002012-04-10T16:23:21.309-07:008 is right between "Playable and fun, Not to ...8 is right between "Playable and fun, Not to be overplayed" and "Very good." It got an 8 because of the innovative nature of it, but it only got an 8 because I share a lot of the feelings that you have. I was incredibly excited about it when it came out, but I wound up a bit disappointed. I'm hoping that they take the innovative parts of the game and apply them to other games that I enjoy more.Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14011225292134198772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-21099316502793735242012-04-10T15:45:41.518-07:002012-04-10T15:45:41.518-07:00According to your ratings I simply cannot see this...According to your ratings I simply cannot see this being an 8. A low side 7 probably--appeals to niche group (fans of Risk), and can be played sometimes. That fits better with a feeling we seem to share--the fun is in the aftermath, as the game itself is merely a bit of tactical planning and a whole lot of luck. I simply cannot play this more than once per game session, as Risk is just not a fun game, and I shudder at the thought of playing this 15 weeks in a row...GROAN. After the first game we took a two week break, then played another game, then a week break, then a third last Friday. From what I've read the games get even longer the further into the 15 games you get--considering the game is at least 15 minutes too long right now at an hour, again I shudder at the thought of two hours of this. And we LOVE long games...long games with meat on them, like 18XX, and shorter long games like Planet Steam and Brass.Guy Riessenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09861881771440505582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-10345711705086140402012-02-14T10:53:26.715-08:002012-02-14T10:53:26.715-08:00Yeah, I don't know if I emphasized enough the ...Yeah, I don't know if I emphasized enough the drastic swings and quick endings that have occurred in our games. Someone will be winning by a ton one turn, and then suddenly will have lost because someone else captured enough capitals - or because the other players decided to obliterate them. You're right in that if everyone else starts far away from Australia, then it could make it more difficult to capture the capitals that you need to win.

I'm glad you liked the review!Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14011225292134198772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-54428593106056260762012-02-14T10:08:11.633-08:002012-02-14T10:08:11.633-08:00I also found Risk Legacy to be very innovative and...I also found Risk Legacy to be very innovative and I keep wondering how they can leverage this "campaign" design in other games.

I do disagree on the Australia premise as our experience has not been that Australia is too dominant (at least in any early games). I think the reason for this is that the games end quickly and starting in Australia may place you further from the action. A few early dice rolls that don't go your way can lose a capital and then all the victor has to do is turn in 4 cards for the 4th and final victory point (2 capitals, starting VP, and card VP). As more people win the game then Australia may be more important but as you said this can be minimized with modifications.

Great review!

MichaelMichaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06350753439838788027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6829360209113689355.post-67856759691984258632012-02-14T07:05:46.937-08:002012-02-14T07:05:46.937-08:00Fantastic review.
